Weekend in the Cities!

To say that we had a good time on our weekend trip to the cities would be an understatement. We had a GREAT time! Our couples/marriage retreat weekend proved to be very relaxing and rejuvenating in many areas. We were able to spend the weekend with Matt and Lacee as well as two other couples from Bismarck. Yes, they made it, but barely with all of the flooding! We stayed at the Marriott in downtown Minneapolis, ate out for every meal(yikes!), attended couples sessions, and went out on the town both nights. We even had the chance to catch up with Pam and Chris, and see our good friend Jen (from Bismarck) who is now at Luther Seminary. At the very end we even had enough energy to go and see Chris Tomlin, in concert, with the Andersons. It was a highlight from our trip! It was a Sunday "off" well spent!

Confirmation Retreat

Dan took his confirmation group down to a part of Green Lake Bible camp for a retreat a couple of weekends ago. They tried going sledding, but ended up creating these. I thought they are quite exceptional and deserved a spot on the blog! This is the dragon that the men created.

North Dakota Flood of 09

It's hard to watch all of this and not be there at our home to help. Sorry, but it will probably always be home even though where we are now is good:)

My cousin Josh and Cindy were evacuated from their neighborhood, which is right across the street from Maria and Jill, Lacee's friends from high school. I heard they are now allowed back in, but if the river rises 3 more feet it won't be good. I talked to my uncle Scott today and he said they were ok over in Mandan.

Jamestown has been affected as well. The Anne Carlsen Center students had to be evacuated to nursing homes and the hospital. I feel so bad for them and moving all of those fragile kids with equipment. My mom has been seeing most of her students at the hospital this week and it's been hard for her and Ron to get in and out of their house.

Of course Fargo is the worst. We just keep praying for all of the people that are being affected by the flood. My good friend Kate's parents were one of the families that were evacuated from the Fox Island area in Bismarck. My old school, Prairie Rose was evacuated on Monday, I believe, due to flooding. I think in the 4 years that I was here or there tied to that school we were sent home a few other times early because it's right in the flood plain of Apple Creek. From what I've read the students will be attending another school tomorrow.

I'm wondering how the Sagsveen's are doing??? Dave, are you out there?

Hopefully the rivers will crest lower than expected! Praying!

Blizzard of 09

Thought I would share this! This is my mom and Ron's driveway this past week. It took 4 hours to plow through all of that snow! I couldn't picture how much snow there really was until they sent this picture...crazy isn't it?




I'll have pictures from Honduras soon....Dan's inexpensive camera broke so I have to wait to get some from others that went on the trip!!!

Update From Honduras

Dan called this afternoon from Honduras! I was expecting an email, but was pleasantly surprised to HEAR from him!!! I was sure my phone was on vibrate so when it rang it was a surprise and then, that it rang AND I wasn't seeing any students was so lucky!

Anyway, I also got an email later, but I wasn't sure if he was able to send out emails to everyone else so I thought I'd let you know how's he's doing here just in case.

He said.....everything is going well. He has a mild cold, and the food is amazing. They are building cement blocks, working on a roof, painting, and they were able to bring some supplies to a school. He said the people are great and the weather is humid, but good. Here's a few more comments from his email.

Love you too, honey! We are having a great time, though I miss you a ton. It has been an awesome time so far. We are currently in a town about 15 minutes from the place we are staying at, checking out the local market and seeing the sights. Honduras is a beautiful place with some very nice and hospitable people. Will update you more when I get home. Know that I love you and miss you, and that I can´t wait to get home! It was amazing to hear your voice today. Talk soon...

I don't expect to hear from him again until they get home, but if I do I'll post any updates here;)

Flowers From My Favorite Co-Workers

The two women that I work the closest with, at work, got me these for my surgery! How sweet are they! At first I thought they might be from Dan, but then I knew he'd know better because of the monkey that's in the corner of this picture! I just hate it that I have to lock them away so the cat doesn't knaw on them. Flowers to Meeko are like bananas to jello. You don't see one without the other. It's maddening! As you can see he has already taken his post and is munching on some leaves in this picture. They are now safely locked away in our bedroom where kitty can't lunch.

And yes Dan, while you are gone I am eating chinese food and rice krispies!

The Bachelor Part 2

This pretty much sums up our looks tonight after what happened on the final Bachelor show. Ok fine, he had to follow his heart and he made the wrong decision at first, but geez.....did he really have to break up with the girl on national television? We all know that one girl is going to get her heart broken at the end of every season, but everyone knows that and they (the girls) know that could happen to them. This time she (Melissa) never saw it coming. That was very lame to do what he (Jason) did on tv. Poor guy used to be America's sweetheart.....now they are all going to hate him. I'm going to hold out for the live show in a couple of months when she (Molly) dumps Jason for his brother!

p.s. Is this not the cutest monkey you have ever seen? I still have not fulfilled my life long goal to hold a monkey/chimp of some kind AND get a picture of it! Maybe my Dad can find us one in Mexico?

Leaving for Honduras

Although this post is listed under vacation, Dan really won't be truly going on a vacation. He's leaving for Honduras tomorrow night for a mission trip and I am sad:( Please pray that he and the 9 or so other ladies on the trip have a safe and good time. Pastor A was the original planner for this trip until she had some circumstances that made it impossible for her to go. So now, Dan gets to go and I hope it's a good experience. I am also hoping for NO SNOW as shoveling all by myself with stitches in my stomach would not be ideal:) My mom is coming again next weekend and hopefully we will get to do some shopping and this time I'm hoping it's actual shopping instead of virtual. We'll see if that snow stays away. We'll hopefully have some good pictures from his trip when he gets back! Obviously I still have some vicodin in my system because I believe I said some form of hope in this post about 7 times!
