1 Year Today!

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!!!

To the Swamp....Florida that is:)

And we're off....with 43 kids, 9 adults, lots of i-pods, and some eagerness to play and work.  We'll be going to Disney World/Epcot for 3 whole days and then Daytona Beach for our mission work.  I know, I know...it sounds REALLY rough with Disney World, but I promise we will be sweating and working hard too!  If you need to get a hold of us we will have our cell phones, although I can see Dan having it on him more than myself.  Riker is headed to some friends, (who adore him and call him Skittles), and our next door neighbor is watching over our house and the felines.  We'll have a recap of our trip as soon as we get back!

My Mom and Ron came for a night this past weekend and Dan had an idea!

Dan has been waiting for 2 years to change out the fluorescent light in our kitchen to these hanging pendant lights.  It could never have been done without Ron's professional help.  As you can see the attic was quite hot.  A big huge thanks to Ron for helping us complete this and thanks for visiting us;)  We had a great time!

Cravings

Do you ever get cravings?  Do you ever want to taste something so badly that your mouth waters and it's all you think about, literally for minutes on end?  Right now I'm craving chocolate sour cream frosting with a vengeance.  It's so bad that I feel I would walk the 4.5 miles to the "grocery store" (HELLO!) if I weren't to have a well reliable car.  I'm picturing a moist vanilla cupcake topped with way too much frosting, licking it off, and then re-applying.  Kind of how Ashlyn eats french fries dipped in ketchup.  It's too bad I'm not pregnant or else it'd be a great excuse to just finally go get some and eat it!  Or maybe my husband would feel sorry enough to go get it for me.....Hmmmm.....sweetie, I think I have a migraine:(    ;)

Movies.....again:)

Definitely, Maybe-Recommended by Kathy and Kristin and this one was cute.  I cried when he said the best part of marrying so and so was the little girl.  I can say that because it's on the preview. It keeps you guessing, that's for sure. Have we ever had a movie on here that we didn't like yet.  Hmm...maybe we are just the worst movie critics and the whole Hollywood film industry just works on us.  

Atonement-it was ok, there, one that we didn't rave about.

Random Thoughts from the Dornfeld's

 -Dan has all kinds of tricks up his sleeves.  His best one is getting me to go to the grocery store in secret ways.....Honey, let's go rent a movie, but now I need some soda and it's cheaper at the grocery store.  Honey, we need gas at Wal-mart....hey we should go in and get some milk......darn it...he got me again.  I might resort to never running errands with him ever again in fear of ending up at the dreaded grocery store.  I don't have a lot of patience to begin with, but for some reason my "P" meter drops to below zero when I hit the threshold of a food market.

-We are averagely smart people.  Together we could sometimes be considered tentatively brilliant.  Today was not one of those days.  We finally got around to painting the last spare bedroom and touching up the edging in the other room.  Our gallon-o-paint only lasted for the big stuff.  For the trim we opened another can (of the same color) that we had laying around for awhile.  Well.....it so turns out that after 3 hours of painting, with Jill's help, we have flat tan walls with shiny tan spots splattered like cougar spots throughout the whole room!  Exceptionally brilliant; yep you guessed it we touched up with satin on top of flat!

-We are trying to clean up our act.  You know how some people put money in a jar to try to train themselves to stop doing something...mainly a vice that they have?  Well we've started this today trying to fervently stop one of our worst habits (habit cannot be named here...it's too embarrassing, but I'm sure our mother's know what it is).  Each vice is $.25 cents.  so far I owe $2.50, while Dan owes $1.00.  We are on our way to empty wallets.  Let's hope that we become more successful in our efforts so that we still have enough pocket change to feed ourselves.  Well, that might not be so bad....that would mean we wouldn't have to go to the grocery store!

Update! Stuart's story was picked up by the AP, USA Today, and he will also be featured in "The Lutheran" magazine during the month of September. He's been on the news in Green Bay, which is where this story was picked up from and a few radio stations as well. We are very proud. What a cool hobby:) Even while he's de-stressing/relaxing he's still got his members on his mind:)

4th Of July Festivities....Mandan Style:)

So most of you know that one side of my family is from Mandan.  Mandan is somewhat unique in that they think the 4th of July should be celebrated just like Christmas....Apparently they love Jesus just as much as they love the birth of our nation...or maybe they just like the excuse to get together and barbeque like it's the Last Supper!  Here's some pictures of Mandan-ness on the 4th.  All we can do now is sit and stare at the t.v. because we are so tired.  Two days of straight sandbar volleyball, swimming, and playing will do that to you!  Even though Dan had to work he was able to squeeze in a little time here and there.

Wall-E=Wow!

Oh wow, did we LOVE this one!  Again, Dan always knows the exact date that the "kids' movies come out!  I had seen the previews and wasn't all that impressed, but this is a must see.  This robot just does it for me like Short Circuit did for me in the 80's!  Dan says Wall-E, the actual robot reminds him of a combination between R2D2 and Short Circuit.  There isn't much talking in the beginning, hence the robot that doesn't talk much, but you would not believe the emotion that they are to convey with non-verbal stuff.  We LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this one and I'm sure it'll become one we own....good message too!
